Hi Peet,

With our new beer and wine license we can now run events in the back on our own. We have a bunch of square handhelds that we need to get set up to run in the concert area. I see we have a “BSB-device” as a wifi network. Is that available to us? Do you think we need to set up a separate network back there?

Thanks,

Tammy

Tammy,

I'm happy to help you get those devices on BSB-Device which should work well *inside* the brewery in the office space and brew pub area. The brewery Wi-Fi is designed for coverage inside the Brewery, specifically the front half of the brewery with an emphasis on the Tap Room. See red highlighted area in the image below.

It's possible there is a Wi-Fi signal outside of the front part of the building, but the Wi-Fi is not designed to cover anything outside. The Knitting Factory had always provided their own network and outdoor Wi-Fi for the shows. Will the Brewery need its own outdoor Wi-Fi? If so what areas of the grounds will need coverage?

Thanks.Peet

Thanks Peet. We’ll need coverage at both bars in the concert area so pretty much that entire area. Would switching to starlink give us better coverage options?

Tammy,

There are quite a few options networking outdoors, but I need to get a better handle on the scope of your requirements. Can you provide a map of all the areas you need to have coverage? How many devices do you need the network to support? Will it be used for anything besides the square processing?

Thanks.Peet

Hi Peet,
I scribbled in red the locations of our two bars. We essentially need coverage in the entire back concert area. We’ll also be using the square readers off-site occasionally. We’re planning to use a hot-spot on those occasions. Feel free to share a better idea if you have one.
Thanks,
Tammy

Tammy,
It looks like we have two distinct types of areas that we would try to be covering. Is the space behind the stage a permanent structure with power? Does it have a line of sight with the back of the brewery that wouldn't be obstructed by vehicles or tour buses or whatever else may be parked between the two buildings? If it has permanent power and direct line of sight, its technically trivial to extend the brewery's network to Wi-Fi that would fully cover the area.

For the area that is a tent bar station, either phone hotspots or a dedicated hot-spot device *seem* like it would be your best bet. During concerts is there sufficient cellular service to provide internet for folks? If so a wireless hotspot or a dedicated cell phone with hotspot for the Square devices should be your best bet.

Hi Peet,

We have power to both beer booths that are marked on the map.

Hi Peet,

Change of plans, we’re working with Knitting Factory to share access to the “production” wifi in the back. Meantime, I need to use one of our secure wifi’s set up in the building to set up our square readers. The password I have for the employee wifi doesn’t work. Can you share that with me?

Thanks,

Tammy,

That's 100% the most straight forward solution. I'd thought that option had been ruled out. I'm glad to hear it's not.

Here's are the key's for the Wi-Fi SSID's

BSB-Device (recommended for the Square devices)

BSB-Staff (for your records)

On a related note, is the Square solution going to move into the Taproom at some point, or will these be exclusively for events?

Thanks Peet. Right now, the square devices are just for events.

Hi Peet,

Will you please send me the password for the BSB device wifi? I forgot to write it down last time.
