Hey Peet, Are you able to provide any insight into this scenario for us from Lenas email below? I'm finding it interesting that many websites seem to work fine, but this doesn't unless you use data or a different wifi then it works fine. I'd say a good 30% or more of the time that I try to get to a webpage lately, I get a "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN" error. Screenshot attached A web search says that probably has to do with our internet connection. I've tried reaching the sites I need to go to with the FVLT Guest internet, our Ethernet, on Chrome and Safari and Edge, and nothing works. If I want to go to one of these sites, I have to use my phone, with wifi turned off so I'm using the cell network. The offending webpage today was the City's PROST plan: https://www.engagemissoula.com/hub-page/prost-2 This is a very public page that should not be a security risk. I need to review the FVLT photos they used in the draft plan for proper photo credit. But, I can't. This error has been a constant issue for months. It really slows me down in my work. Can you please have Peet look into it, soon? Boston and Lena, This is not a function of any sort of DNS based security. What you're seeing a DNS timeout. Your router was configured to pull DNS directly from the root DNS servers, a configuration that usually works without issue. For a reason I cannot pinpoint, DNS lookups were taking more than 5 seconds instead of .02 to .2 of a second. I've reconfigured the DNS server on the router/firewall and you should not have the same bottleneck. As an aside, I know it can take time to open a ticket, but please do let me know about the issues you're experiencing as soon as they are bothersome or affect your workflow. I'm happy to have addressed this extended issue, but I would bet that it would have been more valuable to have had it resolved months ago when it was first noticed. Cheers.Peet

Hi Peet, Thanks a bunch. I can see that your work already fixed the issue. Thank you! I'll do better about sending in tickets earlier. Didn't want to be a bother, but I'll make a note to bug you more often 😄 Best, -- Lena Viall Conservation and Communications Manager Five Valleys Land Trust 120 Hickory Street, Suite B, Missoula, MT 59801 W: [fvlt.org](https://www.fvlt.org/) D: 406.519.5195 O: 406.549.0755 --------------------------------------------------------------- From: Artichoke Support - Peet <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 19, 2025 10:47 AM To: Boston Wakeham <[email protected]> Cc: Lena Viall <[email protected]> Subject: Fw: Internet connection issues hampering work (message id: 95001763)

Lena, Not a problem in the slightest, and it's never a bother, I promise! I just feel bad that you were fighting DNS time-outs for so long. It's on one of those types of problems that does not show up with a binary failure. As you noted, its primary symptom is consistent inconsistency. Regardless. I'm glad I could provide a quick fix for the issue. Cheers.Peet
