Hi all,

I wanted to provide an update on Julie’s battery replacement for her computer.

I took it to Geek Squad at Best Buy yesterday, but they weren’t very helpful. They said they would likely need the password and aren’t authorized to do the repair themselves, so they would have had to send it to Apple anyway, which could take 1-5 weeks. They recommended uBreakiFix as a potentially faster option.

I went to uBreakiFix, and they got all the information they needed. They will need to order the battery, which will take about 5-7 business days to arrive, and then they’ll replace it. They didn’t ask for the password, which makes sense, as Peet and I were both hesitant to share it. We set up an account under MEP’s info email, the name is “Missoula Partnership”, and our office phone number.

I believe the repair will be done before I leave, and I can pick it up, but if not, I’ll coordinate the pickup. They quoted around $200-$250 for the part and installation. I was about an hour into the process, so I didn’t catch the exact price.

For now, Julie is using the ‘Spare’ computer, and it seems to be working well. I’m also making a note for future reference on how to handle similar situations and where to go. Thanks for the help!
