Hey Peet.

I'm interested in using a simple program to get clients to sign documents online. I had someone send me stuff via Adobe Sign earlier this week and it was really slick. I looked online and it appears to cost about $24/mo for a business license with 2 users. Would you have any objection to us adding this software to our line-up? I'm guessing that we might also be able to replace the PDF Exchange Editor program, but not 100% sure on that?

What's the number of documents you'd have folks sign/mo?
customer-reply (internal) Jun 7, 2024, 9:12 PM
15, maybe? Mainly concerned with finding something that is super use-friendly for the client—not many clicks and definitely intuitive for them to use.

Jill,

There are a ton of options, and my first thought was a pay per contract solution, e.g. pay $0.99 per executed document. But there's other options that are probably better. Adobe Sign could definitely work. We moved to PDF-XChange because it's a *significantly better value for PDF creation/editing than Adobe Acrobat Pro. Excluding e-signatures PDF-XChange does basically everything Acrobat DC does. DC costs $864/User/3yrs. PDF-XChange Pro costs $157.30/User/3yrs (and you own it if you stop paying the ~$24/yr maint cost (just no upgrades).

For signing there are a lot of useful solutions. Heck there's even a couple out there that allow for lifetime signature collection for a single price. This is a bit random but this deal popped up for me today ... [Prime Deals Landing | Signaturely](https://signaturely.com/prime?fpr=lifetime) ... I'm currently testing the product, but yeah it seems pretty okay.

I'll let you know.

Cheers.Peet

Peet--

We're going ahead with subscribing to Adobe so we can have documents signed online. Missy is trying to install but needs "admin credentials" to be able to do that. Can you help, please?

I didn't realize this was a time-sensitive purchase.

Candidly, I am not a fan of Adobe Acrobat DC for Teams. I'm actively moving my Windows clients to PDF-XChange Pro for cost/performance reasons as well as a better experience with Sharepoint Online. Acrobat is capable, but overpriced and has proven buggy for many of the folks I support. There are no technical or security reasons to not us Acrobat DC, and I will support it for you.

I'm not sure why missy's computer is not prompting for an elevation request, but it is desperately in need of a restart. Please restart as soon as convenient and I'll be able to continue troubleshooting the elevation software.

Ok, I will restart my computer now. I do shut down my computer ever night when I leave, should I be doing the restart instead each night?

Sorry, Peet. I didn't realize it was time sensitive either until we had some documents today that would be excellent candidates for signing online—prompted us to just give it a try. We've got a 14-day trial period, so maybe we end up not using it after all?

Like I said before, my #1 criteria is super, super simple for the clients. We've got lots of older folks who aren't too tech-savvy. 😉

All of the solutions are simple on the receiving end. Some have more features than others. The space is pretty well commoditized.

I'm able to see that the elevation software is running correctly. So, Missy, if you try the installer again, you should be prompted for an auto elevation. I can approve that and the installer will run on any of the SA computers going forward.

Looking at [Signaturely](https://signaturely.com/), I may go that direction myself. Regardless, I'll let you know what I find.

Missy,

Unfortunately shutting down Windows is not restarting Windows, and if it's off every night, it can't restart. It's a silly feature of windows that makes it boot faster, but I've hit my limit on explaining this "feature" to folks and have disabled it across my managed computers. In all seriousness thanks for helping to drive that decision.

My recommendation is to log out of your computer nightly and shutdown for the weekend if you'd like. If there are updates, your computer will restart during off hours to fully apply them.

Ok thanks, I will start logging out. And I did restart my computer yesterday, did the updates that were needed go through?

Peet, I tried to download it again this morning but am waiting for you to approve for the installer to run.

Missy,

I see Acrobat is installed. Jill you can also install with the same installer.

Jill,

I'm still digging into looking at signing solutions and there are A LOT. This is a rabbit hole that never ends, but considering you already have PDF-XChange, there are solutions that provide significantly more in terms of esignature signing for less.

- [Adobe Acrobat | Create, edit, and review PDFs](https://www.adobe.com/acrobat.html)

- $575/2users/yr

- Documents seem to be "owned" by the sender, e.g. if Misty sends it will be in Misty's account if Jill sends it's in Jill's account.

- [Electronic Signature Software & API - BoldSign](https://boldsign.com/)

- $120/3users/yr or $240/5users/year
- It's a new platform, but from a 20+ yr-old company
- Documents are "owned" by the account, not a person
- Brandable
- Easy to manage templates
- Upcoming IOS/Android app
- Upcoming backup to SharePoint ($240)
- More?

- [Electronic Signature Software - SignWell, Formerly Docsketch](https://www.signwell.com/)

- $480/3users/yr
- Documents are "owned" by the account, not a person
- Brandedable
- Easy to manage templates

- Probably more? (but BoldSign seems like a better value)

There are more out there, but I'm stepping out of this rabbit hole until we chat more about your needs.

Cheers.Peet

Hi Peet.

Yes! We were playing around with Adobe Sign yesterday and Missy was able to get that to work how we'd like it to. So, I assume that we'll be able to save signed documents into our clients folders? Or are you saying that they stay in Adobe and we can't save them elsewhere? Hopefully that's not the case.

I appreciate your help with this, but don't burn up too many brain cells on it. With our change in the business (Gage leaving—which he is actually going to be done at noon today—yikes!), we're no longer going to be doing the quarterly reports for our clients, which was our main use of PDF Xchange Editor. We still might need to occasionally do some work on a pdf, but not at the same volume that we have in recent years. Please factor that into the decision.

Gage will be at the office this morning—if you have any specific directions for him regarding the laptop, please give him a call. He was wondering if he should leave an "out of office" type message on his email? I've got meetings outside the office this morning, so I won't be there.

Jill

Jill,

As discussed, I spun up a boldsign.com trial for you and invited missy@ and jill@ to the "team". Pleas follow the invite link and use the "Sign in with Microsoft" option and your own accounts.

I took a couple minutes to build out the basic branding for your emails, etc. so they should look a lot like your website theme.

Cheers.Peet
