Hey Peet,

The large TV in our conference room that we use for zoom meetings and presentations is not functioning. We have a big board meeting coming up on the 15thand I’ve been tasked with making sure the TV is back in operation in time for the meeting.

Symptoms:
The TV turns on, the camera sounds like it’s powering up…but then it lands on a screen from which we can’t seem to leave. It doesn’t give the option to enter a password or anything.

We’ve attempted several restarts to no avail. Please help!

Thank you!

So there's a few devices involved in the camera setup. The computer is definitely up and running as I can remote to it without issue. It also does see the display as connected. Barring any cables being unplugged, that leaves the two Logitech boxes behind the display and the display itself not being set to the correct input.

You can power cycle the two Logitech boxes by pulling the power from the back, counting to 5, then plugging them back in. (the same effect can be achieved by unplugging the devices at the wall power receptacle, but I feel like the back of the devices are readily accessible behind the tv. Please see below for reference of the power input location on the boxes:

As for the correct HDMI input on the display ... I'm unsure which port the setup is connected to.

but then it lands on a screen from which we can’t seem to leave.

Could you provide more feedback here? Perhaps a picture of the screen? Is it the macOS computer that's connected to the display? A screen the display is creating itself? Have you fully unplugged the TV/Display to restart the internal computer that powers it?

Thanks.Peet

Ok, I power cycled the two Logitech boxes. Here’s a picture of what comes up on the screen

Considering the computer "sees" the display, I tend to think the issue is *not* with the Logitech boxes.

Has the Display always been set to HDMI 2 for the computer? Looking at the back of the display, there should only be one HDMI cable plugged into an input. Is it plugged into HDMI 2? If not have you attempted to change inputs with the Television remote?

I just noticed the computer changing resolution, but there's been no activity on the device, so I'm assuming I'm seeing a TV reboot ... not sure there.

Thanks.Peet

The HDMI cable is plugged into HDMI 2 behind the display. By input, I assume you mean source, which I have attempted to change, but it only gives the option of HDMI 2 (picture included). If I plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI 1 port…it flashes the computer’s Home Screen and then goes right back to the “no source” screen.

Yup Source = Input (Well technically the source is Device plugged into an Input, but I've given up on words having any sort of static meaning). I don't directly interact with Samsung displays except for setting up this one years ago.

Do both Logitech boxes have a power light lit? Have you disconnected power for the display or used the remote to perform a full restart of the TV (I cannot direct you to the setting without the full model number to look up the manual ... so unplugging and plugging back in is likely the fastest way to a full restart).

Actually if you could provide the model number I can more accurately direct you to settings for the display.

I can perform a full restart, I was just worried about screwing up existing settings

Whatever's going on with it, it's already screwed up. Would you please confirm that the HDMI cable from the Mac mini connected to HDM1 on the smaller Logitech box (Desktop Hub) That the ethernet cable is directly connecting the two Logitech hubs via an ethernet cable. And that HDMI 1 Out is connected from the Logitech Display hub to the TV?

If the above is all true, then try connecting the Mini directly to the display via hdmi and see if it displays as expected.
Whatever is currently going on, the Mac mini is currently offline. I'm not sure if that's a power issue or something else.

Pleas do send images of the logitech boxes, front and back. Don't worry about showing all the cable routing, but feel free to include what you can.

Don't worry, this is about where we give up.

Ooook, I checked all those connections and they were all correct. I then plugged the Mac mini directly into the display and it brought up the login screen (though it wouldn’t let me login…an issue for another day, I think). I’ve re-plugged everything into its former ports and am including pics

Is there anything else I can try/need to do? Wondering what the next steps should be.

Thanks!

I could not tell you why that setting changed, but the expanded color range on the HDMI port in the TV settings blocked the signal from syncing from the Mac mini. Out of curiosity, did you connect the mini directly to HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 to test it?

I only ask because the setting was disabled on HDMI 1 before I looked at it. It's disabled on both HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 now, but just curious. The mac *should* be able to output the high dynamic range, but the Logitech set up, not so much.

I connected it to HDMI 2 to test. Thank you for coming and taking a look at it. It was about to send me off the deep end.

Glad it was connected to HDMI 2 ... at least for my brain. It just means that the mini does directly support that feature. I just cannot wrap my head around why it changed. Did the setup move from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 at any point? Le sigh. I'll just chalk it up to digital ghosts.

Cheers.Peet
