Hi Peet, The last three times I've gone to the backups on PAR-SRV I have gotten this: [embedded image] It takes hours to complete. Is there a way I can restore files without having to wait hours for that to complete? https://console.lithiumbridge.com ... for a web restore. Regardless, if the server's running, right-clicking and choosing 'restore previous version' on the enclosing folder of the file(s) to restore is going to be your fastest, even if it wasn't currently Scanning. Cheers.peet

OK. Hopefully I won't need it. I did a test Web restore and after 5 minutes it's still compressing files for 2 JPGs totalling 150k and as I recall, the "restore previous version" works as long as the files aren't too deep in the folder structure. ~jb On Thu, Mar 2, 2023 at 8:37 AM Artichoke Support - Peet <[email protected]> wrote:

Nope, restore previous version works all the time ... as long as the file existed during one of the daily 7am/12pm snapshots. cheers.peet

An extreme example but some of the file names and paths are nuts, in spite of my attempts to rein it in. This path length is 284 characters from /Volumes/. Some are deeper than that. [embedded image] Maybe if this comes up it will afford me a chance to point out the perils of long folder / file names. Ah yeah, now I gotcha. I'd forgotten about that nightmare. And, oddly enough am dealing with it right now at another site. Two things ... - Absolutely use this as a reason to not have insane path lengths. It silly for other reasons. - If we upgrade PAR-SRV to 2022, we can enable support for long path names in windows explorer. Cheers.Peet

My understanding is that SharePoint has a limit for path length (I think around 400 characters) but it's more than Server 2012 so that's good. Susan is aware that it's an issue and I have NOT told her SP has a higher limit. She has mentioned that we (she and PMs) will need to really try to shorten up. She keeps making noises like she's getting ready to pull the trigger but she's also been crazy busy and we haven't met to discuss for a month. She and six other staff are in LA right now for a high-dollar video shoot for Deloitte. So we'll see. Happy ... uh ... what day is it again? Oh yeah, Thursday, ~jb On Thu, Mar 2, 2023 at 12:03 PM Artichoke Support - Peet <[email protected]> wrote:

Seriously, how often does this need to synchronize? When I checked Monday ... synchronizing. This morning ... synchronizing. At least the last five times in a row when I check on PAR-SRV, synchronizing. [embedded image] On Thu, Mar 2, 2023 at 12:03 PM Artichoke Support - Peet <[email protected]> wrote:

Seriously, does it finish then automatically just start over? I checked it this morning and I'm sure it said it was at 51%. Now I check it and it's at 21%. Is it just doing a continual backup, sync, backup, sync, etc.? Then it kicked me out and I can't sign in because of an error. I noticed it defaults to Firefox now. I assume you changed it. It looks like indexing (which was disabled) was enabled on the data volume. That's what was killing the free space on C:. If the free space is used up on c:\ Crashplan can't finish its scans. A lot like running out of memory. It seems to be trucking along now. Peet
